You want to know what I should be doing right now? compartmentalizing my responsibilities to the "I don't care" box of my brain -Getting engaged?       Nope, I'll leave that to everyone and their dog. -Emotionally processing The Bachelorette happenings from tonight?      That can happen on my 20 hour car ride to Idaho. -Apologize to my mom for sticking my feet in her face during The Bachelorette because she found out who wins?      I actually really should get on that...but that's not the answer I'm looking for. -Putting away the pile of clean laundry sitting on my floor?      You're getting closer! -Packing for my trip to Idaho? Anyone who knows me knows I can't pack before midnight anyways, and I shockingly don't have to be anywhere until 10 tomorrow so I'll go all night long if you're in too. I'm going to Idaho to watch one of my best friends get married. And it's so exciting because I playe...

post-fourth family frustrations

I have to confess something today. I have been feeling a bit discontent lately. I was going to dedicate this post to ranting about my family. I was about to lay it all our on the table in a party of self-pity and entitlement. Balloons of frustration and annoyance were already blown. We had already lit the candles of confusion and placed them atop the cake of disgust. I was going to lay it all out there. About how we cannot play Balderdash without the word "anus" finding its way into a definition. Or about how a day doesn't go by without one brother turning into a Super Saiyon and kah-may-ha-may-ha-ing another brother, which turns into a cage match, which turns into a football game, which turns into a rugby game, which turns into a fight between Captain America and Iron Man, after which Nerf guns are involved and I am used as a shield. I was going to list my dad's random questions for me, which include but are not limited to: -Whitney! How do you drink without ...

...and other faux alliterations author's note:  I briefly and crudely sketched some pictures to give you a visual of my experiences. you make fun of my artistic talent, you are kicked off this blog. deal with it.   Well, hi. This will be my first post from a Starbucks i think the woman behind me knew i was taking this. so hopefully it’s caffeinated and bursting with beans of brilliance. Alliteration...eh? Eh? Last week I chalked up multiple fails. Think Buddy the elf in the North Pole. Breaking figurative toys, hitting my head on the doorways of life, being too big for the world’s metaphoric beds. Yeah, this week I just didn’t fit into the school desk that Life generally requires we fit into. me = buddy; life = the chair   My nanny boys were driving me crazy with question after question. They love details. They love things like exact times we’re going to eat, how many minutes left on the pizza, how much white chocolate chips cost at Wa...

Guys. I have secrets. Secrets I wish I could tell the whole wide world. But I am sworn to secrecy. some of these secrets are exciting And my love for talking really makes this whole secret-keeping thing a big fat downer. Okay, but really. It's not a huge deal. But when people tell me exciting things, I want to tell my other friends because I am excited BUT I CAN'T AND IT MAKES ME WANT TO EXPLODE. I hate secrets. HATE THEM! Except for secrets like Oak Baptist Church. preaching it thrones? what a joy divine, leaning on the everlasting arms Two and a half hours west of Omaha sits this tiny church. And I got to go there and sing some hymns with a congregation of twenty people. In my little corner by the piano, I felt so small. Hidden deep into midwestern Nebraska, I was drowning in rurality and old people and corn. 99.99% of the world would never see where I was or ever lay eyes on this tiny church full of 9 ½-finge...

Other than horrible Mary Kay parties, There are a lot of things making me smile right now. smiling At the top of the list is Tyler. Tyler is a boy who my little brother led to Jesus. He has been in our youth group, soaking up the Word and chasing after God for the past two years. Normally I am cynical about teenage boys, but this one is great. He hasn’t been at youth group the past few months since he got a girlfriend, and we all have been worried. The guy leaders have been contacting him with little to no reply, his friends have been trying to hang out with little response. We have been praying. A lot. And just yesterday, Tyler came to Worlds of Fun with us. He has been talking to our youth leader. He is coming back! in between tyler (left) and my brother (right) sooo happy We are praising God for answered prayers. Other answered prayers include me NOT throwing up after doing all the spinning rides the kids insisted I go on. I’m not s...

V is very, very extraordinary

It’s one of those days where I’m tired and I am fed up with all the pop-ups on my computer telling me YOU MUST SCAN YOUR COMPUTER NOW YOUR COMPUTER SOFTWARE IS AT RISK UPDATES ARE AVAILABLE So today I was stupid and was all like, Crap! Okay, scan me up, unknown scanner…thing. Fix my computer! I somehow ended up on a website wanting me to pay this monthly fee; I don’t do monthly fees yo. Thank goodness that got me out of my pop-up softie stupor. Well I’m sitting here in my unbelievably messy room (I PROMISE I have been good with keeping my room clean this summer, it’s just been bad the last few days STOPJUDGINGME). And it’s one of those sunny rainy sunsetty days so my lights are off and I’m staring outside, fascinated. And fascinated by more than just sunny thunderstorms. This past year, I think God must have been like, “Okay. This year, let’s teach Whitney about LOVE. Pop some popcorn, Gabriel, and grab the Kleenexes because this is going to be hilario...

BIG NEWS. I got new goggles and they make me excited to wake up tomorrow morning. I am determined to become a swimmer at the new wellness club I am a member of. I imagine myself passing the old, hairy men and wrinkly, shockingly big-chested women in their respective lanes as I zoom by in my awesome new eye protectors, leaving the wannabe swimmers in my wake. If only I didn't look like this when I swim: nose plugged & moving at a glacial pace When I first tried them on I felt like they were suctioning my eyeballs out...a feeling I have only experienced when I dream I am in outer space without a proper space suit. Going blind wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, though. Blind piano players are automatically 1000 times cooler. Although I would never get to see my mother's face when we watch the Bachelorette together ever again...that would be the one downside. enthralled BIG NEWS NUMBER 2: I just signed up for a half-marathon...whaaaaaaa??? F...
